I so love this girl! Always smiling and full of constant encouragement. She is creative and the type of person you always should try and be around. I really met her over a year ago, when i did a mother/daughter session for her and have been in touch ever since! She has created her own blog, illustrating her talent at creativeness in scrapbooking and photography.

It has been a year since her and her husband exchanged vows and i was honored to capture this moment for them. Thank you so much for this opportunity, i am so looking forward to your next life event, whatever it may be, and can't wait to help you capture it! You are a definite inspiration.

So, the forecast for this day called for showers and wind. We ended up doing the session earlier than planned, just in case. It turned out sunny and windy! Which ended up making for some fun, romantic images. I had so much fun and am looking forward to your wedding next year!

Ooo, I almost forgot about the engagement story...

After 7 years of being together, of course the marriage topic arose a few times. One night when the topic came up, he actually said to her, "Ok, will you marry me?", and even in the couple of times i have met this guy, i know he can be a joker. So she took it as a joke and said "No, cuz your not serious, you don't have a ring, come on." So that was that. Then a while later the same discussion came up, and he asked the same question. While she was ready to say the same thing, he leaned over, opened a drawer and pulled out the ring. The emotions flew and she actually couldn't even start calling anyone, cuz it was too late at night! In just meeting this couple a few times, this is a perfect engagement story to me, I can almost imagine him asking the question, and can almost even see her reaction! Thanks so much for sharing!

It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when i get to photograph people for the second or even third time! In the early summer of 2008, I photographed the whole family, grandma, grandpa, kids, spouses, grandkids, it was great and now, over a year later, i was asked to photograph a portion ;o) of the family again! This is the youngest grandchild and in a year, she has changed so much! Despite fall, and the chilly breeze, we had fun and ended up with a lot of pics! Enjoy!

Lotsa fun with this one! So happy, full of laughs and of course, love, this couple lightened the mood and we all just laughed throughout our time together.

Another beautiful engagement story. The engagement took place in Disneyworld, Florida. Disneyworld was contacted by the groom -to-be months in advance and arrangements were made for the couple to have dinner in Cinderella's castle later at night so they could watch the fireworks out the stained glass window of the castle! After supper, the groom-to-be arranged for the fairy godmother to sing a song, while the mice from Cinderella danced. Then... as if it could get any better... he brought out a white platter covered in roses, in the centre of the platter was the engagement ring! She said yes, and they will live happily ever after!

I must say, i am impressed with these guys! They get the marks for creativity for sure! Congratulations you two!

I just couldn't wait until tomorrow to do the big "reveal", i am just so excited!

I assigned numbers to the names of those who were identified as having referred someone, in the order they came in. There were 52 names of people who had referred me. I entered the number 1 - 52 on the website, random.org, and a random computer generated number was drawn.

I had an amazing turnout with regards to referrals on my facebook fan page, helping me to advertise my business and i am so thankful for that. Couples have the most amazing engagement stories! So I have decided to tell them with each engagement posting!

This groom-to-be surprised his fiancé with a trip to Hawaii, where he proposed during a helicopter tour of the volcanos! I am so impressed with how thoughtful and romantic this story is and others i have recently heard, which i am excited to share with you, while posting the photos of their engagement session!

Everything was perfect about this session, beautiful weather, gorgeous couple and amazing chemistry! I could feel the love through these images while i worked on them!

true love. a wedding rescue story

I had two weddings booked for August at the time of my accident in July. One of them was group photos, as the couple had been to Mexico to get married. Thankfully with that one, the photographer in Mexico turned out great and it was fine to cancel. However, the other wedding was a complete day. I remember waiting for the ambulance in the water, wondering what i was going to do for this couple. How would they ever find a photographer in 3 weeks... Then, lying in the hospital, I had to phone my friend Jana, to tell her that i wouldn't be able to second shoot with her the following weekend and ended up explaining the whole thing. Long story short, Jana came to my rescue, having not booked anything that weekend because she was leaving to take her family to Disneyworld on the Sunday.

I don't know what i would do without you girl. Thank you for taking such amazing photos for this couple to cherish always. I will always owe you... big time. ;o)

And to the couple, thank you for your understanding, I wish you a lifetime of nothing but happiness. I feel like I really was there for your big day. Enjoy your memories.

One of the favorite parts of this job is meeting and getting to know people. Really, there are just so many great aspects of being a photographer, and to me, this is one of the best! After a few minutes of shooting, people open up and get in the moment, really enjoying being there with each other and having fun with the "poses"! This family was no exception. This little girl is in my daughters class, so we have always known them, but when I was asked to photograph her family, I had the opportunity to really meet them! We all know how much guys *love* getting their photos taken, but this grad hung on to get some great shots, probably just for his mom! It went great and his friends and escort met up with us for some shots before the big ceremony. I think he was just itching to get into that car though and take it for a ride before showing up at the school! Thanks! This makes me miss it just that much more. I can't wait to pick up my camera and throw the crutches away...

In June I had the wonderful opportunity to visit with these girls mom and auntie, while we shot a few "6 months" pictures! It was so much fun, I could have wasted away all day there just visiting and laughing! It has been so great getting to know you all, thank you again for everything!

I have some really bad news about me. It could be so much worse and I thank God that i am ok and have such loving, caring friends and family. I broke my leg last Saturday night trying to wake board. My femur snapped in half and i was taken to the U of A hospital in Edmonton for surgery. I now have a rod going straight down through my femur bone, screwed at my knee and at my hip. I don't have a cast and have been doing physio so i am able to get around, barely for now. It is already starting to feel better and I think i am getting the pain under control without to many side effects.

Unfortunately this affects my photography quite a bit. I will be canceling or rescheduling or referring clients who are currently booked with me through July and August. i am waiting until the end of August to see for September. Things seem to be working out so far.

I will continue to update my blog as i still have quite a few sessions to go through and finish and post, which fortunately i CAN do!

I want to take this opportunity to THANK everyone who has been involved in my accident from the beginning. My friends and family have been so unbelievable, I am so blessed. From holding me in the water and calming me to carrying me up on the stretcher... I can still see their eyes looking down at me, to cleaning and packing our trailer and boat. Also to Jana who will be helping me with a wedding. Now that i am home, the help is continuing with the kids and cleaning and meals. I am finally up, which is a huge accomplishment, so it can only get better! I love you all so much, thank you, thank you , thank you.

This has to be one of the cutest little babies around! So adorable and full of expressions, happy to have his picture taken, despite some technical difficulties! We managed and I'm pretty happy with the end result, although the credit here goes to the adorable little boy! It really helps that my clients are so good looking! Mom was so easy going and relaxed, i so commend you for this. You will have a calm, happy child! Enjoy your memories!

Found it again!

We're back! My family and I headed out to B.C. on July 1st. Our journey took us to a wedding for my uncle in Elkford (pics of that to come), then to Vancouver for a couple days and out to the island. We wanted our kids to see the ocean for the first time in their little lives! It was so worth it. After the rain and dreary weather in Vancouver, Victoria proved it's nickname of the sunshine coast! We just did so much and the most important being the reconnection with each other! On our way home we swung through Kelowna to visit dear friends of ours we have known since our days in Whitehorse, Yukon, many moons ;o) ago! Only to discover they are expecting child #2! They are those friends that i am sure everyone has, you know the ones you are so close to, yet only talk once, maybe twice a year, then see each other and pick up like it was just yesterday. Anyway, big surprise and perfect timing, they are due in a little over a month, so I was quickly able to take some maternity pics (posting to come)!

Now back to reality, well, almost... home in time for laundry and grass cutting, then packing up for a big best friend birthday camping bash!! Yes, then I will be working on my backload of editing.

Ok, so I will be posting pics from many sessions, please bear with me! Just a side note to anyone curious... I post pics from sessions only once the complete session is done and ready for proofing and I finish sessions in the order in which i shoot them. With summer being the busiest, it takes a little while. This is also my most favorite season and LOVE to camp with my family and friends, that is where balance comes in...

I met up with this '09 graduate when she needed a well deserved break from studying! We headed out to the Lac La Biche Mission Historical Site and then into town for some fun shots! It was great to hang out, and thanks for listening to all the stories and answering all the questions my daughter had for you! Good luck with a new beginning!

Southern Session Day 2

I met up with this family at their home in south Calgary, after meeting over email months ago! It was through a referral from a lady who owns a wedding/event rental company here in Lac La Biche called C-Bry Rentals. I was able to meet her too and she joined in on the session as well!

The age range of this session was from 1 to 95! We had a family of 4, mom, dad, 15 year old daughter and a one year old daughter, friend of the family, cousin to mom and then grandmother to mom and cousin! Hope i didn't confuse you! Such wonderful people!

We went for a short drive behind their home to Edworthy Park, we had some harsh sun, but made the most of it! Hope you enjoy your images!

Southern Session

I had booked a couple of family sessions in southern Alberta about 4 months ago and the time finally came! Although with the late start to spring I was starting to wonder if we would have any green out! There was and it turned out to be a couple of hot sunny days! The first family i met up with has a beautiful, acreage outside of Carstairs, with a VERY old, gorgeous farmhouse! They have redone most of it, but the character and beauty was well preserved. Thank you so much for trusting me with your family photos, I had so much fun with your family, it was great to meet you!

This session was shot at Easter, so it's long over due for posting! This is one of my very best friend's family, they were finally ALL together so we took advantage and got a few shots in! Thanks for the laughs and for making me feel like I'm just a part of the family! You are all wonderful people and i am so happy to know you! Also, thanks for raising one of the best friends a girl could ask for!

We managed to squeak about an hour or so with the guys... you know guys, plus it was calving season. But we spent a little more time with mom and her 3 beautiful, inside and out, daughters.

Noticed the snow in the first 2 shots... it's been a month and the only thing that has changed is that there is now buds and leaves out. So there is some green, but still the threat of the white stuff is in the air. Let's get through this next week, then I *almost* promise we'll be in the clear!

It was finally time for myself and my husband to spend 8 days together in Cabos San Lucas, Mexico. It was a perfect get-a-way for us that was long over-due! We spent our days sleeping in (til 7:30-8), going for walks, sitting on the beach, exploring, napping, eating, and going to bed early after we would sit on our patio, taking in all the sounds, the warm breeze and savoring every moment. It was more than wonderful!

And, no, we didn't bring back the Swine Flu... I know you were thinking it!

It's finally time! We booked a trip to Cabo San Lucas a few months back and it's here! We depart Edmonton at 6:55 am tomorrow morning! YAY!! It has been almost 5 and a half years since my husband and I took a vacation together. So it's long overdue! Sure we have had a few over-nighters here and there and gone out together, we even went to Vegas last year with a group of our closest friends... but it's time we re-connect and spend every waking minute together for 8 days straight. Enjoying just being together! It has always been so very important to us and I am so grateful for it. We will rejuvinate and come back better parents!

I have to admit though, I really didn't think it would be this hard to leave the kids. When we went to the Dominican those 5 years ago, we only had the 2 children who were 5 and 3 at the time. Now we have the 3, and it will be the longest we have been gone from the youngest. They are in the second best caring and loving hands though, their grandparents. So, I am comforted knowing there is nothing to worry about! Along with my amazing friends lending a hand, I am able to fully enjoy our little escape!

Sorry there have been no posts in a while. I have a family session to post from Easter and will have pics of our trip when I get back, so look forward to those!

We have been working on a new office to run my business from, which I am super excited about. I will finally have a professional place to do client consults. HOPEFULLY in a couple of weeks after we get back, I can post the photos of it as well!

This past weekend my two sisters who each live 5 hours away, in opposite directions, came out. It was so great to catch up, laugh and just be together. My dad has formally requested photos of each of his 4 daughters, so he can put some up in the new house. So since I don't see them often, we headed out for a mini photo shoot and some fun! I know, I said 4 of us, I will have more up when I can take my other sister out too, then yes, I will get some of myself too! Enjoy.

I did a session of a freshly turned 2 year old a couple of weekends ago! I almost forgot how busy a 2 year old can be! It was touching to watch him rediscover his world around him! From popping popcorn in the living room to squeezing lemons and making fresh (sour) lemonaide to sledding in the yard! I spent just over 2 and a half hours there and captured 1128 shots! Lots of blurry ones, cuz he was constantly on the go... here are a few, or 9!

It's been a while since I have photographed my gorgeous God daughter. So when I was babysitting her the other day, i took advantage of the opportunity! Talk about a happy baby, not once did she cry or fuss, not once! Then when i took out the camera... out came the full smiles! I'm positive she is the happiest baby ever. I'm not kidding. And yes, I am proud... just look at her!

Wow, I know. A whole month almost since my last post. Sorry. I'll have a few pics up here soon, I promise!

I just wanted to say how much fun I had doing boudoir sessions. They truly bring out the beauty in a woman, not to mention the self-confidence. I thank those women who had me photograph them and know their men are happy men!

Those images unfortunatly are not going to be posted. I really, really want too... but really everybody seems to know somebody who knows that person, and you know how it is in a small community! I was fortunate enough last weekend to have the opportunity to help out at this session with my good friend Jana. And what an opportunity, TWINS! I felt so welcomed into their home, which was warmed by a hot fire and calmed by the soft music playing in the background. These babies were amazing! Sleeping and peaceful pretty much the entire time. Such a perfect experience, thanks so much Jana.

I was so excited to do this shoot! Snow can make for some beautiful photos! It turned out to be perfect... mild temperatures, fresh snow fall, new snow falling so gently and of course a gorgeous family! Just a note that this entire family, I mean everyone, has the most incredible eyes. I so wish i could have captured more close shots of their eyes. After about an hour and a half or so, the boys were sooo cold, they did so well tho and each got a candy cane after the drive back (when both of their boots and socks were off and mom and I were rubbing feet with the heater cranked!)! Thank you so much for trusting me with these memories, I truly hope you enjoy them and I can't wait to work with you guys again, let's change it up tho and wait for some hot weather beach shots!!

I was so happy when a friend asked if I would take photos of her 2 children! As every session has unique and different people and locations, I was excited to try some more indoor shots as well as take a few outside! The children were excited to try anything! The little girl was the perfect poser and really made my job easy, while her little brother on the other hand, was full of life and allowed me to capture true "moments"!

This beautiful baby boy was 8 days old, when I had the pleasure of photographing him. I love that I can capture and enjoy the sweet innocence of babies. When I look back to when my children were that young, it just seems like such a blur... the love was indescribable, but with that came exhaustion! Now that mine are older and I am able to photograph newborns, I can only enjoy the miracle.

I had the honor to capture the vows of these two on the long weekend in September. We had so much fun with umbrella's (since the sky opened up and rained, providing them with LOTS of good wishes), good people and men in serges!! This was an RCMP wedding, the couple walked in through the swords of the Honor Gaurd and the red serges looked so pronounced! Thanks for being up for anything! I wish you all the best!

This was a day full of details! From the ceremony at the Dow Centre in Fort Saskatchewan in the theatre (because dance is a huge part of this couples background), to the many special locations for photos to the reception and speeches (which brought many a tear) to the slideshow and dance! Everybody knows that family will always be there, but until you are faced with something in life that seems unbearable, do you truly understand this fact. I have been so blessed to have had my sister and nephew living with me for the last couple months, we have really been able to get to know each other as I didn't live at home with her for too long being that i am 9 years older than her. These last few months have taught me strength and endurance, have opened my eyes and allowed me to see past my own life that i live with my family. This time has reassured me in my belief that all things happen for a reason for all involved. I just want you to know sis, that I love you and am so very proud of you! Oh and thanx for modeling... lol!

Summer Wedding

I was fortunate enough to second shoot for Jana Kendall, July 12 for a wedding in Josephburg. The day turned out absolutely gorgeous, beautiful weather and a beautiful couple made for a perfect wedding day. The church was amazing, it was old, complete with no plumbing and the painting inside was stunning. The family farm where some formals were shot was incredible with the gardens sewn with so much love, the perfect spot for family photos. Now that I have used up every adjective i really know... here are a few I was able to catch from the day...

I look so forward to when an order arrives! Then i get to package it all up for the client, it is so much fun and adds to the creativity and imagery! 4H Achievement Day

WOW, it really has been a while... and a crazy while at that!! I have all these ideas for post to put on here... the problem is time. Anyway, i just thought that I would share a few shots of the 4H Acheivement Day event held at the Sandero Ranch here in Lac La Biche. My little girl is a part of the multi club, where they do everything from cooking to crafts and woodworking... pretty much you name it, they have a project book for it. I know, i know... who knew 4H was all that and more! I remember when I was in school and all the farm kids were in it to sell thier cows. (They got to miss school sometimes for the sale, I remember that!) So here are a few from the day...

Well our trip to the city was cancelled. Yeah, this weather can quit ANYTIME. I am so anxious for the warm weather and the leaves. I had planned an 80th birthday family photoshoot which we were able to pull off just before the snow came... it was really cold with the wind, but everyone was so awesome, I just wanted to post these, it was the only candid's I could get with the weather and everyone freezing! This little guy is just so precious!

A little ME time!

Ok so I just need this time to talk (or write) a little. Like I said at the beginning of this whole thing I am not very good with words and tend to ramble and jump around, so please bear with me! So if you're interested, grab a drink and get comfy!
I feel like I am missing something...I have been so caught up with the business part of this endevour that I have lost myself. Now I need to find me again...I need to pull out my camera and see life and gain perspective through the lens. My kids will be relieved to be looking at me from behind the camera again!
Growing up I have always had what others call a talent for art. I could always hand draw a pretty good representation of what I was looking at, have been good with colors and can visualize something before I actually see it. It may be somewhat of a talent, but I have always felt that it was somewhat of a curse. I am only realizing this now. I have always lived under pressure. I was always the one in school picked to draw or paint something, the teachers would always single me out to others...you may be thinking that this would be flattering, and to a certain extent it was, but there was always that pressure (that I guess I put on myself) that it was never good enough because there was always someone better than I. I never had a chance to enjoy it and be proud of myself for what I can do for myself and for others. I have always been pretty hard on myself. All these years of wasting what I had.
From school I went into graphic design, where it was the same thing. I can see now that the underlying joy for what I did was there, but it was always pushed aside and ignored by the pressure I put on myself that whatever I did was not good enough. I guess it is just who I am, I don't think it was inherited or learned, I have just always been so hard on myself.
I really don't like the feeling. So when I had my first 2 kids I got out of the art field. I began working in the health field, where I could see others that were not feeling so good in one way or another and felt like if I can just smile, it might help ease their pain, if only for a moment. The pressure was gone...
Something, though, keeps bringing me back. Back to the exposure of others and vulnerable to the dissappointment I set myself up for.
Okay already, this time will be different, it is obvious to me now. This is something that I have to do. I need to learn what it is I need to learn. To be happy with who I am and what I can do. To demonstrate to my children, perserverance and self confidence. Even though, down this road you will be hurt or frustrated, but those are just more stepping stones in the path that makes you a better person. I have been saying for a while now that everything in life happens for a reason, and if you can realize that reason and learn from it, you will be the person you want to be. It just takes time... sometimes too much time.
Well there ya go. I feel so much better. Thanks for listening! And thanks for all of you who always love and encourage me...be patient I'm getting there. I am perservering and will not give up this time. If I can help someone see beauty through portraiture then I should feel fulfilled, it's coming.

Fun times

This is my favorite!! I love how he is stopped in midair, while the motion is all around him!

So here they are, some fun family pictures of my niece's birthday party (her birthday is actually in December but we had the party in Feb.). My sister rented a gymnasium and the kids had a blast, bouncing, running, jumping, swinging, climbing... I'm really playing in manual mode now and was able to experiment with some exposures... anyway we had a blast!

I was going through some photos from fall and thought that I would post some from a family session since I have been a bad, bad photographer and haven't thought of anything creative to photograph. Now that the weather is supposed to be "average" I'll be getting out!! Can't wait!

Well, times are a little hectic... so I haven't added any photos in a while, you've probably noticed! I'm processing orders and booking for the summer. Not to mention hockey, 4H and work. I'm even trying to sqeeze in a little me time... I know selfish isn't it!! Don't worry I'm not doing very good at it. I am so grateful for the time that I have at home, I think that I can safely say that I have acheived somewhat of a balance. If only my little one could entertain himself a little more... although he always seems happy just following me around while I try to keep up with the housework!

Ok, so I can't post without sticking in at least one picture! This has to be one of my favorites! Look, I caught his little tear!! He is just the cutest!!

I took these photos for another one of my bestest friends back in November. As you can see, I've been playing with black & white inside, while there is snow on the ground, outside. I'm not sure how much "studio" stuff I will be doing, cuz it might get a little costly to really set up for that. But I will do what I can. I love this because you can really focus on the subjects.

Just some ideas for your valentine!! Some of your kids may be coming home with them from my kids this year, just a little something different!

So, is anyone doing anything special this year on Valentines Day? I love this day, only because I am such a pathetic, hopeless romantic. Any excuse to go overboard on romance is more than welcome here!! Although we never really do too much, we make an extra nice meal (we usually eat pretty fancy anyway, cuz my husband loves to cook), crack open the sparkling apple juice and then break out the pink, heart decorated cupcakes that the kids made!! So, we'll see!

I went through some older shots I took of the kids, boy do they change fast! I can't imagine not being able to catch these moments and have them to look back on for years and years. Kids are just so much fun, challenging at times... but fun! They really do help you to keep things in perspective!
